For decades, the Torlonia Collection, the largest private collection of Roman marble sculptures in Italy and arguably the world's most important private collection of its kind, has remained largely hidden from public view. This exhibition dramatically changes that, bringing 58 meticulously conserved and newly studied sculptures to Chicago. Nearly half of these works, dating from the 5th century BCE to the early 4th century CE, haven't been publicly displayed in over 70 years, creating a truly exceptional opportunity for art enthusiasts.

The meticulous conservation and scholarly study undertaken specifically for "Myth and Marble" ensure viewers will encounter these ancient masterpieces in their most pristine state. The opportunity to engage with these rarely seen sculptures, many of which depict pivotal figures and mythological scenes, provides an unparalleled window into Roman culture, beliefs, and artistic achievements. The exhibition's curatorial approach will undoubtedly deepen our understanding of Roman sculpture and its enduring legacy.
